1. New 2012 Academy Awards Apps
By: Blake Metzger
As Emerson students, the majority of our student body will naturally be tuning in to Sunday’s 2012 Oscar awards ceremony. Social media has strongly enforced an enormous imprint on audience involvement with popular television events such as the Oscars. Now viewers can have the most up-to-date photos, live streams, and commentary via social media. The academy awards are now easier to watch more than ever with iphone, ipad, and android free apps. The iphone and ipad apps enable direct free streaming to Apple mobile devices. Furthermore, the Apple apps are even more advanced than the actual television screening of the 84th Oscars ceremony. The apps will permit more vantage points than ever before. The description of the app states, “The Oscars app has more cameras than anywhere else following all the action on the Red Carpet, in the Kodak Theatre and even at the ultra A-list after party, the Governor’s ball. This is the perfect companion app to have when watching the show on TV,” the description says. “Once you download the app, you’ll be a virtual member of The Academy with insider information on all the Oscar buzz, a first person view of the Red Carpet and exclusive backstage access to Hollywood’s biggest night. Use the app In WATCH mode and sit back, grab the popcorn and enjoy our live hosted experience on the Red Carpet and Backstage.” If you have an Apple mobile device and are an avid movie buff, this is one application not to miss out on this award season.

Another new app to follow the Oscars rage is being offered by Android. The free app has been dubbed “Live from the red carpet.” Similar to its apple cousin, the app offers live feeds of the ceremony, after-parties, and celebrity interviews. These apps are permitting viewers to experience the Oscars in a way that makes them feel like they are there to witness every exciting moment. By integrating social media the Oscars and its advertisers will be able to impact larger audiences of viewers and consumers.

Regardless of the way in which you watch Sunday’s live Oscar show, it will be an exciting night filled with stars, entertainment, and a whole lot of talent. Grab your popcorn and enjoy the show.
