1. Twitter Talk: The 54th Annual Grammy Awards

    By Garret Siegel

Tracking Twitter on television became a trend at award shows ever since the Video Music Awards started incorporating it into their telecast a few years ago.

As tweets continue to get shadier, however, displaying tweets on live television would only serve to discredit the show as a whole.

For example, much like “Who is Arcade Fire” was a trending topic after the 53rd awards in 2011, “Who is Paul McCartney” was trending for almost a solid 15 hours after the show had ended.

Another disappointing trend was the confusion between Bon Iver, who rightfully won “Best New Artist” and “Best Alternative Album”, and Bonny Bear (a name he was mocked as on twitter.

What is undeniably the most disappointing twitter conversation is the one accounted by The Huffington Post, in which female fans of Chris Brown express their desire for Brown to beat them.

While twitter reactions are becoming increasingly more inappropriate for recognition on-air, tracking them will always be just as entertaining.
