Digitally Sitting Front Row at NYFW

With New York Fashion Week just around the corner, millions of fashionistas around the globe are anxiously awaiting to see the latest Fall/Winter trends catwalk down the runway. What once used to be a highly exclusive set of events, has now turned into a widespread internet sensation. Social media has played a large part in the spread of the fashion bug. Nowadays it seems as though designers and audiences are able to work hand in hand. Designers are eager to create a buzz about their upcoming collections, while audiences are excitedly waiting to experience the latest trends of the season. Social media has successfully accomplished making this match made in fashion heaven occur.
This year New York’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has partnered with YouTube and Maybelline to present its Live From the Runway broadcast. From February 9th to February 16th Youtube will host anyone with a smart phone or computer a front row seat to the latest shows. Various designers will be featured from Diane Von Furstenberg to Michael Kors. Along with the runway presentations, the Live From the Runway homepage will include up-to-date show schedules, interviews, how-to videos, beauty tips, and behind the scenes sneak peaks. It is ultimately any loyal fashion guru’s dream come true.
Now just about anyone can be a “someone” at NYFW. It no longer takes a private invitation to join the conversation. Followers can even comment and criticize alongside industry taste makers via twitter at #liverunway.
By integrating YouTube and Twitter NYFW has infused large audiences with one of the most highly anticipated fashion events of the year. These social media platforms have changed not only the size of NYFW’s footprint, but the amount of active viewers and consumers.
